SPAM Rules of Engagement

Spam = any unwanted, unsolicited, irrelevant, or inappropriate messages sent on the Internet to a large number of users.

Spam is generated from email, instant messaging, Usenet newsgroups, web search engines, blogs, wikis, online classified ads, Internet forums fax and more.

CAN-SPAM Act (Controlling the Assault of Non-solicited Pornography and Marketing Act) enacted on January 2004.

By law, all mass mailing must contain:
  • accurate routing information,
  • a subject line that accurately reflects the content of the message, 
  • and an opt-out option to cancel future mailings.
Additionally, by law:
  • the message must be identified as an advertisement,
  • include the sender's valid postal address.

Failure to obey can result in fines up to $11,000.  Under the new law, states are also given the right to enforce much of their own spam legislation.

Facebook Fake, Google Real; Social Networth.

Facebook has a lot of fake profiles on their social network, unlike Google that foresaw that only real profiles have any value.

If you can create as many profiles as you want as whatever you want then you get a lot of false information in your data system.  Advertisers pay to advertise to specific target markets but if those are false profiles then they get no return or sales.   Therefore it doesn't matter how many "likes" a page receives because they do not use real data.   Investors know that without the advertisers the social network can't turn the profit they expected. 

On July 28 2011, Google enforced it's policy to allow only real profiles.   Yay! Google was able to use their foresight to ensure that they have the best quality social network.

In a article a few days ago, a Facebook spokesperson interviewed by the BBC stated,
"All of these companies have access to Facebook's analytics which allow them to see the identities of people who have liked their pages, yet this has not been flagged as an issue." News, 13 July 2012, http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-18813237
LOL.  They have lots of issues besides fake profiles, flawed software and double standards.   One issue I  flagged to the Facebook legal team in July of 2011 regards their double standards for big and small business on their social network.   I requested the removal of private pages using my trademarked brand and the registration of profiles.   Unfortunately they chose to ignore the issue and reiterated to me a bunch of rules from the Help section.   Facebook continues to allow anyone who does not represent my company to use my brand and advertise on their network with my trademark.   Obviously, I would never pay to advertise my brand on their network if there was someone else using my trademarked brand. Yet, there is only one Coca-Cola!?

Unfortunately lots of suckers believed Facebook had the most valuable information on a social network.   Also, the people trying to make money from Facebook's data are going to be disappointed too.   Google on the other hand is steadily increasing in stock market value.  It may have something to do with "like" enforcing principles of "like" integrity and honesty.   :)

Web Site Credibility

Establish your web page credibility by being an authority source that is objective in text.  Use a broad scope and high quality content. Also design an appealing and unique custom site design with functionality to help your success in your e-business.

The authority of the sites by examination of the whois database, sponsors and who authored the web page content. The author of the sites's sponsor should have the appropriate expertise to present the information authoritatively.

The top-level domain for the country-code TLD is important because some search tools give extra weight to governmental and educational sites.

The highest quality and more authoritative results come from primary sources. A primary source is firsthand information about a particular topic.

Web page information should be fair, the content may contain any subtle or clear biases, or perhaps the information is skewed toward commercial or political interests. Authority sites will use high-quality links to other related sites.

Scope and Quality
The amount of detail provided can help determine the value of a web site. The intended audience also determines the scope of the web site. Additionally, high quality web pages content should be accurate and up-to-date. Compare web pages in the same categories for evaluating web pages.

Design and Functionality
Web pages are designed to attract and hold a viewers attention so that they will spend time interacting and viewing the pages. Most web pages share these common characteristics that make the page more attractive and easier to use.
  • A logo or e-business name on or at the top left corner of the web page
  • Links to related pages, grouped into categories, to make accessing the site's other pages more convenient.
  • Various multimedia, including photos, graphics, animations to interact and attract.
  • Advertisements, in text or images, to generate revenue for the web site. Ads can be for the company's own products or from a third party advertiser.
  • A search tool allows viewers to locate specific information at the site or at the other sites on the web.
  • A copyright statement notifies viewers that all content at the site is protected by copyright law.
  • A privacy and security policy statement informing viewers about the information collected form the a the site and how it is used. It's usually located at the bottom of the web page.
